Baking Powder Biscuits

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Sift…

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder 
  • 1 tablespoon sugar 

If you want cheese biscuits, add…

  • 1/2 cut sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)

Cut in 1/2 cup vegetable shortening – “stop right before you think you’ve gone too much” ;-)

Add…

  • 2/3 cup milk (I use skim milk, but whole milk will work just fine)

Stir until dough forms a ball, then knead by hand for about 2-3 minutes. Press until 1/2” thick. Cut using biscuit cutter (I use a 2 1/2” one). Place cookie sheet that has been greased with vegetable shortening. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
